Facilities of transport and of communication

The road and road-transport Network

The Limousin is at the crossroads of two motorways with national and international vocation :

  • A North-south axle : A20 who links up Paris in Toulouse to Barcelona in Spain and who is in free usage between Vierzon and Brive (406 km). This essential motorway is borrowed every day by 50 000 vehicles in towns (Transfer and Brive) Moreover it is necessary to underline that it is in the area around this axle that was born the concept of "village-stage" which recuperates a quality quality-label, in services to the passengers, for villages located unless 8 km of the motorway, who signed it.
  • A transverse axle : A89 who links up Claret in Clermont-Ferrand. This axle was finished in January, 2008 allowing so to link up Claret in Clermont-Ferrand in 4 hours, Claret in Lyons in 5 hours. A logistical pole also came into the world in some years in Brive, in the crossing of 2 motorways. The realisation of this motorway was accompanied by the building of important works of arts as the viaducts of Chavanon, of Tulle and by Chadon.

Highways supplement cross-ruling and open the Limousin towards the Poitou (N147), P rigord (N21), the Charente (N141) and Auvergne (N145). These two last routes constitute the Road Centre Atlantic Europe, axle strong in town and country planning between the Atlantic facade and the centre of Europe the bet of which in 2x2 ways continues with a supported rhythm.

Moreover, the progressive realisation of operations of bypass of cities and of agglomerations (Bellac, Brive, Aixe-sur-Vienne, Larche) contributes to the improvement of the functioning of the regional territory.

Railway network

As well as for the road, the line Paris-Orl ans-Limoges-Toulouse (POLT) is a primordial axle with daily links (Transfer Paris : 2 h 50 ; Brive-Paris : 3 h 50). The line Claret-Lyons was improved by the use of new rail cars which allow a not negligible saving of time. Works will be accomplished to optimise this line still. Put in operation in an experimental way for 3 years, a line Brive-Lille also clearing the table Transfer and the airport of Roissy Charles de Gaulle, allows the connection with network TGV North am and.

The Region Limousin is irrigated by an important shod network : 843km of railways allowing the circulation of TER (Transport Regional expresses) with vocation to assure a fine service of the territory (87 railway stations and points of railway stopping).

The accent is also put on the easiness of access to different modes of transport by the development of intermodality, across notably the implementation of poles of exchanges. In that capacity, since 2000 the railway station of Limoges the SKY became (Intermodal Centre of Exchanges of Limoges), which unites in the only place, the urban buses (TCL), the coaches of the Department (The High - Vienna in Coach), the regional coaches (TER Limousin), trains Main lines and TER, as well as taxis.

7 other railway stations (Aubusson, Bellac, Egletons, The Underground, Tulle, Brive and Uzerche), among 89 that counts the limousin territory, are on the way to being done up to answer this objective to improve passage from a type of transport to the other one.

Air transport

In air domain, two airports serve the Limousin :

  • Transfer Bellegarde who gives several daily links with the capital, Lyons, London and of other British cities, Brussels. This airport is rapidly developing, moreover, since the evolution among passengers during these last years corresponds to an increase in more than 195 % (2004-2007). Year 2007 represents a particularly satisfactory year with 391 189 passengers, putting the limougeaud airport in the 25th national rank.
  • A new airport in return for from Brive-Laroche, penalised by its topographical environment : Brive-Souillac on the village of Nespouls in Corr ze, to give an equipment more adapted to the big bearers, close to a favourable crossroad of communication and of exchanges.

Back : the Internet regional curl high - debit

Back is a mixed labour union created in 2002 and regrouping the main groups of the Limousin. Its purpose is to allow the top the access to all villages - debit and very high - debit. This operation forerunner, crossed in the form of a delegation of public service, also got the financial support of the State and of the European Union.

Jobs begun in 2005 ended at the end of 2007 with the pose of the last pylon : more than 1000 km of fibre optics were put down, Wimax network was displayed. Services high - debit would cover limousine at the end of 2007 96 % population.
